African Mask Project

This week in Geography we had our african masks poject due. You see, in Africa there are many tribes. In those tribes, people practice animism. Animism is the belief in the existence of spiritual beings. They worship gods and figures of animals. Our task was to make a mask about one of those gods and give a senario of what kind of things the tribe would do in a ceremony that worshiped those gods. It turned out to be a fun and new way to learn about another person's culture and beliefs.

This week something great happened. It was my dad's birthday. My mom, brother, and I, woke up really early and we went into his room. Out loud, we all sang him the birthday song. He was so suprised. It was really fun. After school we all went to souper salad to celebrate his birthday. It was a very fun experience.

Southwest Asia

This week in Geography, we have closed the segment on Africa and are starting a new unit. We are now learning about southwest asia. We have made a physical and political maps of it. The physical map usually includes mountains, river, and landforms. The political map includes countries, cities, and bodies of water. I like doing these maps because it makes me remember Southwest Asia better.

An interesting thing that happened to me this week is that in athletics class, we maxed out on weights. Athletics is the class we take that involves all of the school sports. This week was a test week and we had to get our maximum weight lift for various excersises. We have to do bench, squat, incline, and power cleans. We also went outside and got timed on some running excersises. We did a 400, 40, and the shuttle. The 400 is just a timed race to see how fast you can run in 400yards, same thing for the 40. The shuttle is a timed event that involves seeing how fast you can run from the right side to the left side and back. It was a really fun week.

On the plane

In Geography this week, we watched a movie after the test on Africa. The movie was about the horrible crisis that took place in Sudan. The movie showed the Janjaweed, arab militiamen, terrorizing and torturing the people of Sudan. It showed the ways they would torture them with graphic details and I was really sad to know that this event actually happened.

In spring break, I also went on a small airplane to view the main attractions of Arlington. It was my first time on a airplane and it was a spectacular view. Everybody looked like little ants. The houses looked like toy doll houses and the cars looked like little hotwheels cars. I felt like grabbing them and playing with them. It was a 30 minute ride but it was all worth it. I saw the lake and the boats on it. It was definetely a experience that I will never forget.

This plane is similar to the one I was on

In Arlington

What I learned in Geography class this week is a little bit more about africa. We are closing up our lesson on Africa and we had a test on that unit. I think I did pretty good, because I was really focused on all of the questions and I think I got an "A" on it. On the test, there were some essay questions on the Socratic Seminars we had and I also think I did good on that part.

My spring break week was better than I thought. We went to Arlington, a city between Dallas and Fort Worth, and we went to Six Flags Over Texas. Six Flags are theme parks located everywhere in the US and they have a lot of roller coasters and many different entertainment activities. I got on every single ride including the Titan and Mr. Freeze. The Titan goes a super fast speed of 85 mph. Mr. Freeze goes from 0 mph to 75 mph in less then four seconds. It was amazing.

It's Spring Break

This week in Geography we are learning about the genocide that took place in Darfur. Again, we had another socratic seminar on it and I made and heard excelent points in our discussion. Basically what happend in Darfur was that the Sudaneese government ordered that Arabs to take out the Blacks living their. This was a horrible event that happened, and I hope that something like this doesn't happen again.

YAY!!! It's spring break. Here in America, Spring Break is a break where you get a whole week off of school to have fun. I usually end up going to Houston and go swimming or something. It just doesn't feel like spring yet, because its still cold over here. So, do you guys have spring break also?

Souper Salad

Hey guys remember how I said I would put up what happened in the socratic seminar? Well it went great. We had a great discussion about the genocide and I learned many things that I would have never thought of. Because of this seminar, I now know more about what other people might think.

This week something cool happened to my dad. You see, my dad and a couple of friends at work decided to have a diet. To make things more interesting they bet 25 dollars each, who ever lost the most weight in two months would win the money. So guess what, HE WON!!! To celebrate we are going to eat at souper salad. Souper salad is a buffet resturaunt that is very healthy. They have soups, salads, and thin pizzas. If you are ever in Austin, I recomend you go there.

Socratic Seminar

As I wrote in my earlier blog, we are learning about the massive genocide that happend in Rwanda, and we watched a movie over it. On Monday, we are going to have a socratic seminar over it, which is pretty much a discussion over major topics that were talked about in the movie. Somebody is going to read a topic question and we are going to have to talk and discuss that topic using notes we took over the movie. Next week I'll post how it went.

I would like to tell you more about me, because I'm not shure I said everything I wanted to say. I am a twin, my brother's name is Kristopher. He also has a blog, under period 7, so go to his blog and say, "Hey I talked to your brother." hahaha. I also have a dog. His name is Mumble, and he is a chocolate labrador mix. He is very cute and loves to play. He is still a puppy and my brother and I are training him to sit, stay, and, roll over. It's pretty challenging but I know when he grows up, he will understand everything we tell him. So tell me what's going on over there in Taiwan. How are your classes going? How long are they? How long is your school day? Do you like school? Reply back and tell me everything.

Genocide in Rwanda

This week in world geography we are learning about Rwanda and the massive genocide that took place there. A genocide is a distruction of a entire race or group. You see, in Rwanda there are two rival groups, the Tutsis and the Hutu. The Hutu decided to completely kill all of the Tutsis there in Rwanda and the Tutsis fought back. Many people died in this mass genocide. It is a really sad topic to talk about, but thats what happened in Rwanda.

This week something awsome happened. It was my birthday on February 27. YAY!!!! I am now 15 years oldl. My parents bought me a 300 pound weight set and I've been lifting weights ever since I got it. Pretty soon I'm going to be very strong.
