Map Test

This week in World Geography, our maps on East Asia were due. Today we had to take a test on it and I think I got a fairly good grade. I felt very confident in what I was doing and I think I will get a 100 on this test. Thanks to the test I now know major physical and political features on East Asia.

The things that I will be looking forward to do next year is that I will be getting new teachers and with new teachers come new subjects to learn. Also next year I will be on the Junior Varsity football team. Junior Varsity is composed of Sophmore and Jr teams. And of course, with a new year come new friends. I CAN'T WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR!!!!!!!

One Child Policy

This week in World Geography we are learning on a one child policy that China has established. We are soon going to have a socratic seminar on it. We will discuss all issues over the policy. The only thing different will be that the Socratic Seminar will be online instead of in class.

My plans for summer vacation is that I will try to get a job. Not many jobs accept 15 year olds but its worth a try in order to bring home the bacon. I will most likely try to find something that I like doing, but if nothing works out, then I will work at McDonald's.

East Asia Maps

This week in World Geography we have began a new unit. We are now learning about East Asia. We have started on our political and physical maps for this section. I'm almost done with mine and I think that these maps are going to be the best looking maps I have done this year.

As you may know from my last blog, out of all the place we have learned about, my number one place to go to would be Venice. The second best place to go to would be South America. I would go to one of the tropical places surrounded by water, such as Costa Rica. I would like to visit its beaches and its tourists attractions.

Costa Rica

Asian Meals

This week in Geography we had a project due about Asian Meals. We had to find 3 recipes consisting of 1 Main Dish, 1 Side Dish, and 1 Dessert. We were assinged different asian geographic regions such as South Asia, Southeast Asia, East Asia, and so on. Then, the day after the project was due, we had a meal party. We cooked the different foods from each region and shared it in class. It was a fun experience because i got to taste the different types of food found in Asia.

Out of all of the places we learned about this year, I would like to visit Venice, Italy found in Europe. I like venice because I like that all of Venice is pretty much water. There are basically no streets because the streets are water canals. Not to be all gushy mushy, but I think that Venice is a really romantic place and I think that Venice would be a really great experience for me.

Mount Everest Video

This week in Geography we watched a movie about Mount Everest. It was about these groups of climbers getting together and planing to climb Mount Everest. As you may know, Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world. The group started climbing and as they got higher and higher, storms and strong winds made the climbing more challenging. Many people ended up dying on the expedition and only a few people made it to the top.

When I grow up, my first decision would be to become a doctor. If that doesn't work out, I would like to do something productive like becoming a engineer. I'm not shure what kind of engineer but I would like to do it. I like working with my hands and I've always loved fixing things and building them.

Religion Seminar

This week in Geography we learned about the different religions found in the middle east. We had a seminar at school and representatives from varous religions came to tell us more about their own religion. There were Buddhist, Hinduism, Judaism, Muslim, and Christian representatives. They all belive that there is only one God, but some of them follow the teachings of a certain person. It was a really interesting experience and I learned a lot.

What I want to be when I grow up is many things. Mainly I want to be a Doctor. I think that medicine is really interesting and I like saving others, plus it pays a lot of money. I want to be a Doctor in a hospital, but Im not shure what I will specialize in. Being a Doctor would be my number one choice when I grow up.

Mount Everest

This week in World Geography we are starting to learn about Mount Everest. Mount Everest is the tallest mountain in the world and many people try to climb it. The journey is a long and difficult journey which challenges you mentaly and physically. People who succesfully climb the mountain usually come back with no fingers or something missing. Many people die trying to climb the Mountain.

Something interesting that happened in my life is that 2 weeks ago me and my brother were skipping rocks in the lake. He got a rock and threw it as hard as he could into the lake, but I accidentaly got in the way and the rock hit me right in the eye. So far I have no center vision, but I still have peripheral vision. I can't see strait ahead but I can see the sides. And today I discovered that I am seeing things again. I can see figures and outlines. I thank God that my eye is getting better.

Socratic Seminar on arranged marriages

This week in World Geography we had another Socratic Seminar. This time it was about the arranged marriages in India. You see in India, parents choose who their daughter of son marries.. This shows the culture that different people have.

Something amazing that happened to me this week is that my grandma came to visit. She is really cool. My grandma makes the best tortillas. I hope she stays with us for a while becuase she is really funny and makes me laugh every day. I love my grandma.

Southwest Asia

This week in World Geography we are learning about Southwest Asia. We had to take a map test on its political and physical features. We had to remember all of the countries, cities, rivers, mountains, and other physical features. It is a great way to learn the things found in a unfamiliar country.

Something interesting that happened to me this week is that in my spanish class we had a party on different foods found in South America. We brought many dishes and desserts from different countries. Somebody brought octopus, and it was cool because I've never tried octopus before. Well I tried some and it turns out that I liked it. I thought that was really fun.

Home Improvement

This week in World Geography we learned about the main religions there are in the world. There are Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. We learned that the most common religion is Christianity. There are 3 major branches to Christianity, there is Roman Catholic, Prostestant, and Eastern Orthodox. Christianity started by the teachings of Jesus who was born in Bethlahem between 8 and 4 B.C. Christians believe in God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.

Something amazing that happened to me this week is that I am going to make some home improvements on my house. We are going to paint our walls a different color, and change our cabinents. We are going to buy the paint today and materials needed for the cabinets. I love doing things like this. I can't wait to see how it turns out when we finnish.

Debate over water

What I learned in Geography class this week is that different countries are fighting over water in Southwest Asia. Some countries are working on a agreement that will evenly distribute the water, but some countries just want to take total control over the water.

Something that happened to me this week is that we had a barbeque at my house. We cooked outside in our backyard on a barbeque pit. It was really fun. The food smelled and tasted delicous. We had fajitas and chicken wings. I love having a barbeque because it is just a time where we could all get together and have some fun.

Blood sports

This week in Geography we watched a movie called blood sports. I learned that in many places around the world, people participate in or practice in some kind of blood sport. Blood sports include rooster fighting, bull fighting, and fist fighting. I learned that in spain, they are famous for the bull fighting that takes place there. They get into the ring with the bull and pretty much fight to the death.

Something interesting that happened this week is that we had a guest speaker come to our school. He was a surviver of the Holocaust. The Holocaust is a horrble thing that happened a long time ago. It was a period in which Germany was killing all of the jews. Well the survivor came and told us what happened and it was the saddest story that I have ever heard.

African Mask Project

This week in Geography we had our african masks poject due. You see, in Africa there are many tribes. In those tribes, people practice animism. Animism is the belief in the existence of spiritual beings. They worship gods and figures of animals. Our task was to make a mask about one of those gods and give a senario of what kind of things the tribe would do in a ceremony that worshiped those gods. It turned out to be a fun and new way to learn about another person's culture and beliefs.

This week something great happened. It was my dad's birthday. My mom, brother, and I, woke up really early and we went into his room. Out loud, we all sang him the birthday song. He was so suprised. It was really fun. After school we all went to souper salad to celebrate his birthday. It was a very fun experience.

Here is a picture of a African mask

Southwest Asia

This week in Geography, we have closed the segment on Africa and are starting a new unit. We are now learning about southwest asia. We have made a physical and political maps of it. The physical map usually includes mountains, river, and landforms. The political map includes countries, cities, and bodies of water. I like doing these maps because it makes me remember Southwest Asia better.

An interesting thing that happened to me this week is that in athletics class, we maxed out on weights. Athletics is the class we take that involves all of the school sports. This week was a test week and we had to get our maximum weight lift for various excersises. We have to do bench, squat, incline, and power cleans. We also went outside and got timed on some running excersises. We did a 400, 40, and the shuttle. The 400 is just a timed race to see how fast you can run in 400yards, same thing for the 40. The shuttle is a timed event that involves seeing how fast you can run from the right side to the left side and back. It was a really fun week.

On the plane

In Geography this week, we watched a movie after the test on Africa. The movie was about the horrible crisis that took place in Sudan. The movie showed the Janjaweed, arab militiamen, terrorizing and torturing the people of Sudan. It showed the ways they would torture them with graphic details and I was really sad to know that this event actually happened.

In spring break, I also went on a small airplane to view the main attractions of Arlington. It was my first time on a airplane and it was a spectacular view. Everybody looked like little ants. The houses looked like toy doll houses and the cars looked like little hotwheels cars. I felt like grabbing them and playing with them. It was a 30 minute ride but it was all worth it. I saw the lake and the boats on it. It was definetely a experience that I will never forget.

This plane is similar to the one I was on

In Arlington

What I learned in Geography class this week is a little bit more about africa. We are closing up our lesson on Africa and we had a test on that unit. I think I did pretty good, because I was really focused on all of the questions and I think I got an "A" on it. On the test, there were some essay questions on the Socratic Seminars we had and I also think I did good on that part.

My spring break week was better than I thought. We went to Arlington, a city between Dallas and Fort Worth, and we went to Six Flags Over Texas. Six Flags are theme parks located everywhere in the US and they have a lot of roller coasters and many different entertainment activities. I got on every single ride including the Titan and Mr. Freeze. The Titan goes a super fast speed of 85 mph. Mr. Freeze goes from 0 mph to 75 mph in less then four seconds. It was amazing.

It's Spring Break

This week in Geography we are learning about the genocide that took place in Darfur. Again, we had another socratic seminar on it and I made and heard excelent points in our discussion. Basically what happend in Darfur was that the Sudaneese government ordered that Arabs to take out the Blacks living their. This was a horrible event that happened, and I hope that something like this doesn't happen again.

YAY!!! It's spring break. Here in America, Spring Break is a break where you get a whole week off of school to have fun. I usually end up going to Houston and go swimming or something. It just doesn't feel like spring yet, because its still cold over here. So, do you guys have spring break also?

Souper Salad

Hey guys remember how I said I would put up what happened in the socratic seminar? Well it went great. We had a great discussion about the genocide and I learned many things that I would have never thought of. Because of this seminar, I now know more about what other people might think.

This week something cool happened to my dad. You see, my dad and a couple of friends at work decided to have a diet. To make things more interesting they bet 25 dollars each, who ever lost the most weight in two months would win the money. So guess what, HE WON!!! To celebrate we are going to eat at souper salad. Souper salad is a buffet resturaunt that is very healthy. They have soups, salads, and thin pizzas. If you are ever in Austin, I recomend you go there.

Socratic Seminar

As I wrote in my earlier blog, we are learning about the massive genocide that happend in Rwanda, and we watched a movie over it. On Monday, we are going to have a socratic seminar over it, which is pretty much a discussion over major topics that were talked about in the movie. Somebody is going to read a topic question and we are going to have to talk and discuss that topic using notes we took over the movie. Next week I'll post how it went.

I would like to tell you more about me, because I'm not shure I said everything I wanted to say. I am a twin, my brother's name is Kristopher. He also has a blog, under period 7, so go to his blog and say, "Hey I talked to your brother." hahaha. I also have a dog. His name is Mumble, and he is a chocolate labrador mix. He is very cute and loves to play. He is still a puppy and my brother and I are training him to sit, stay, and, roll over. It's pretty challenging but I know when he grows up, he will understand everything we tell him. So tell me what's going on over there in Taiwan. How are your classes going? How long are they? How long is your school day? Do you like school? Reply back and tell me everything.

Genocide in Rwanda

This week in world geography we are learning about Rwanda and the massive genocide that took place there. A genocide is a distruction of a entire race or group. You see, in Rwanda there are two rival groups, the Tutsis and the Hutu. The Hutu decided to completely kill all of the Tutsis there in Rwanda and the Tutsis fought back. Many people died in this mass genocide. It is a really sad topic to talk about, but thats what happened in Rwanda.

This week something awsome happened. It was my birthday on February 27. YAY!!!! I am now 15 years oldl. My parents bought me a 300 pound weight set and I've been lifting weights ever since I got it. Pretty soon I'm going to be very strong.

Whats up guys

Hey guys whats up, my name is Kristian. This week in Geography we are learning about Russia and the republics. So far we have covered the physical and political features of it. We are learning more and more about the people and their culture. We are about to take a test about it a couple of days.

Heres a little of information about me. I played football for our school in the fall and am currently in Powerlifting, a sport where we just lift weights and compete against other schools. I like all my classes that I have and my teachers are great.

Tell me a little bit about whats going on over there.... I bet its great.
